Chennai, October 10, 2026 – Shree Jain Medical Relief Society marked its 75th year of service with its Platinum Jubilee celebration in Chennai today. Established in 1950, Shree Jain Medical Relief Society has grown over the past seven-and-a-half decades to provide healthcare across a range of areas, including maternity and childcare, eye care, dental care, physiotherapy, dialysis and nephrology, diabetes and thyroid care and diagnostic services.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. T.S. Surendran, FRCS (Edin), Chairman, Sankara Nethralaya, said:
“Healthcare is ultimately about people, and institutions that remain committed to serving people across generations make a lasting contribution to society. Seventy-five years is a significant milestone because it represents decades of trust and service. Shree Jain Medical Relief Society’s journey is a reminder of the important role that community-driven healthcare continues to play, particularly when it is sustained with compassion and commitment.”
Speaking on the Society’s journey, Shri Ashok Kumar Mehta, President, Shree Jain Medical Relief Society, said:
“When an institution completes 75 years, it is natural to look back at how far it has travelled. For us, this journey has been defined by a simple purpose: to serve the community through healthcare. Generations of people have contributed to the Society, and each has added to what we have built today. The Platinum Jubilee is therefore a moment of pride, but more importantly, it is a moment of gratitude to everyone who has been part of this journey.”
Speaking on the Society’s continuing role, Shri Rajkumar Dugar, General Secretary, Shree Jain Medical Relief Society, said:
“Healthcare needs have changed considerably over the decades, and an institution serving the community must evolve with those needs. Our journey has therefore involved developing facilities and services across different areas of healthcare, while remaining rooted in the Society’s original commitment to medical relief. As we mark 75 years, our responsibility is to ensure that this purpose remains relevant for the generations ahead.”
Speaking on the contribution of the Society’s supporters, Shri Sripal Kothari, Event Chairman, said:
“The story of 75 years cannot be told without acknowledging the many people who have stood behind the Society. Our donors and well-wishers have supported their work with tremendous generosity and faith, enabling the Society to continue serving the community. This Platinum Jubilee is as much an expression of our gratitude to them as it is a celebration of the Society’s milestone.”
