Satish Dhawan Satellite Is shortly known as SD Sat, Is a 3u Cubesat named after Former Chairman and one of the Founding Fathers of the Indian Space Program Prof. Sathish Dhawan. The satellite is planned to be launched by ISRO onboard the PSLV-C51 rocket on 28th February 2021 @ 10:24 AM IST.
Goals of the Satellite:
● To study space radiation
● Magnetosphere and
● Demonstrate the indigenously designed and developed nanosatellite components.
The satellite also tests the capabilities of LoRa technology in Space which could be helpful for many applications in the future in short and M2M communication.
Also notable aspects of SD SAT are:
- With the ambition of creating awareness and educating the common man about space sciences, SKI is sending 25,000 names to space on board its SD-SAT.
- Engraved Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi ji picture on the top panel of the Satellite as a show of solidarity and gratitude for his Atma Nirbhar initiative and Space privatisation. Opening ISRO facilities
has been extremely beneficial to us,as we were able to do all the testing conveniently and comfortably at URSC and VSSC centres, which saved us a lot of time and money. This has not been there in the last fifty years and hence this move is really gratifying and we wished to show our gratification to Hon’ble Prime Minister by etching his picture. This benefits are not only for us but for millions of youth in our Country this privatization and opening up of ISRO is going to be highly beneficial as space is the future. - Sending Bhagavad Gita on-board an SD Card – As Bhagavad Gita is considered the “Supreme epic of India” where people irrespective of any religion, cast or creed, follow the principles of Bhagavad Gita, we felt we need to give it the highest honour and are sending it to Space. We Indians
believe in “Vasudeva kutumbakam” and this epic teaches us that oneness is the highest form of humanity. Over the years many people including Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, have tried to amalgamate science and spirituality through their research, visions and personal experiences with the Bhagavad Gita being a huge part of it. Albert Einstein said, “When I read the
Bhagavad-Gita and reflect about how God created this universe everything else seems so superfluous.
