Chennai, November 6, 2026: Rotary District 3234, in association with the Rotary Club of Chennai Kilpauk, inaugurated the Rotary Kamdar Dialysis Centre at Government Peripheral Hospital, Anna Nagar, Chennai, on Friday, November 6, 2026. Established through a collaborative public-private partnership, the centre aims to strengthen public healthcare infrastructure and improve access to essential dialysis services for patients requiring regular renal care.

The centre was inaugurated in the presence of Dr. K. G. Arunraj, Hon’ble Health Minister of Tamil Nadu, as the Chief Guest. The initiative has been supported by the Pushpavati Babulal Kamdar Charitable Trust, Rotary Clubs of Chennai and Wockhardt Foundation, in collaboration with Government Peripheral Hospital, Anna Nagar.

As part of this initiative, the Rotary Clubs and Kamdar Charitable Trust have jointly provided medical equipment worth approximately ₹1.6 crore, comprising 10 dialysis machines, a Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant, an effluent treatment plant, centralised air-conditioning and a diesel generator. Government Peripheral Hospital has provided the infrastructure to house the centre, along with essential facilities including electricity and water supply.

Equipped with state-of-the-art dialysis machines from Germany-based Fresenius, the centre is designed to serve up to 30 patients per day.The day-to-day dialysis expenses will be funded through the Chief Minister’s Insurance Scheme, while Wockhardt Foundation will undertake the dialysis operations.

The inauguration was attended by several distinguished dignitaries, including Shri V. K. Ramkumar, MLA, Anna Nagar; Dr. S. Uma, IAS, Project Director, TNHSP; Rtn. D. Suresh Jain, District Governor 2026–27, Rotary International District 3234; and Dr. Darez Ahmed, IAS, Health Secretary, Government of Tamil Nadu, along with representatives from the healthcare sector and Rotary fraternity.

Speaking at the inauguration, Dr. K. G. Arunraj, Hon’ble Health Minister of Tamil Nadu, said,

“Healthcare is a shared responsibility, and it is important for all of us to contribute towards the well-being of society. The role played by Rotary in the eradication of polio is a wonderful example of what collective efforts and partnerships can achieve. We must build on this spirit of collaboration and work together towards our mission of eradicating cervical cancer. The real satisfaction lies in helping others without expecting anything in return. When individuals and organisations come together with a common purpose, they can make a meaningful difference. It is equally important to ensure that the facilities and resources created through such efforts are put to the best possible use and benefit as many people as possible.”

Rtn. D. Suresh Jain, District Governor, Rotary International District 3234, said,

“We are committed to working hand in hand with the government to strengthen medical facilities, improve healthcare services and support initiatives that make quality healthcare more accessible.”

Shri J. B. Kamdar, Managing Trustee, Pushpavati Babulal Kamdar Charitable Trust, said,

“We should work hand in hand with the government to create sustainable solutions. This dialysis project is a step in that direction, with the capacity to provide 30 dialysis sessions a day, supported by the best available equipment and a five-year warranty, ensuring continued support.”

Thiru V. K. Ramkumar, MLA, Anna Nagar, said,

“Giving to someone you may not even know, and becoming a part of their journey towards saving a life, is one of the most meaningful ways of serving society. When we give selflessly, we don’t just transform individual lives; we strengthen the fabric of society as a whole.”

Following the inauguration, the District Rotaract Council, Rotary International District 3234, in association with the Rotary Club of Chennai Kilpauk, also organised a Blood Donation Drive at the same venue. Held under the message ‘Give Blood, Save Lives’, the initiative encouraged voluntary blood donation and sought to raise awareness about its importance in supporting patients and saving lives.

The Rotary Kamdar Dialysis Centre is the second dialysis centre established with the support of the Pushpavati Babulal Kamdar Charitable Trust. Its first initiative, the Nadi-RCM-Tolia Dialysis Centre at Madhavaram, operates alongside a medical centre providing treatment to economically disadvantaged patients at concessional rates.

The Rotary Clubs involved have also been actively supporting healthcare infrastructure across Chennai. The Rotary Club of Chennai Kilpauk currently operates a 24-bed dialysis centre at Government Hospital, Saidapet, through a public-private partnership.

Looking ahead, the Rotary Clubs in Chennai, together with the Pushpavati Babulal Kamdar Charitable Trust, have plans to establish three more dialysis centres on similar lines. The proposed initiatives also include supporting the Government Women’s Hospital with facilities for cervical cancer detection and mammography for breast cancer screening.

Through these initiatives, Rotary District 3234 and its partner organisations reaffirm their commitment to strengthening public healthcare infrastructure, expanding access to essential medical services and addressing critical community health needs through collaborative efforts.
