Chennai, November 3rd, 2026: Palam Silks, founded in 2003, by Jeyasree Ravi was the first boutique specialising in Designer Kanchipurams in Chennai. The brand has launched 200+ design concepts in Kanchipurams in its annual fashion shows titled Silkline between 2011-2015.
Palam Silks also represented Tamilnadu in the prestigious Vogue Wedding Show in 2017, 2018 and 2019. The brand is often labelled as a “disruptor” for conceptualising original designs in silk sarees though Kanchipurams are known for their signature motifs like Peacock, Yazhi, Temple patterns.
Palam Silks has recently launched Folklore Collection inspired from folk art, Seeker Collection inspired from World Art and Resonance Collection that created motifs inspired from unseen parts of musical instruments like valves, sound waves and symbolic motif representations of tribal drums. A set of six designs are launched under each collection which covers end-to-design development from research, rough sketches, creation of motifs and a technical brief with design information that serves as a guide to the weaver.
Palam Silks launches SilkDrop this Diwali 2026 under which original design concepts will be launched as “singles” covering an assortment of categories including, Art, History, Culture, Abstract and Avant-garde styles. These designs will be created from scratch, undergoing the same elaborate process of design, development and execution. However, SilkDrop presents the opportunity to launch original designs across the year unlike the traditional approach of a launching a collection every Diwali.
“When I founded Palam Silks, all I wanted was to create designs that are modern, unconventional and novel. This fascination to create original designs in Kanchipurams led me to seek design opportunities hidden in plain sight. I found art everywhere and in everything and used Kanchipuram as a canvas to bring new design concepts to life. SilkDrop is one much revolution that breaks the pattern of a traditional collection launch and give us the opportunity to create more designs without any restrictions.” says Jeyasree Ravi, Founder of Palam Silks.
SilkDrop also provides an opportunity to weavers who own a limited number of looms and do not have the bandwidth to produce sarees on a large scale since SilkDrop focuses on independent, standalone designs. This concept also encourages the next-generation of weavers to stay in the business of weaving and widen their scope of design beyond the traditional motifs.
“I see SilkDrop as a celebration of creativity and self-expression. It gives us the creative freedom to explore different aesthetics and test the versatility of a Handloom Kanchipuram in showcasing novel designs that do not fit within a box. Every silk saree will carry the same effort and weightage that we dedicate for a collection without the restriction of creating motifs in a particular style.” says Jeyasree Ravi, Founder of Palam Silks.
Palam Silks launches three independent designs under SilkDrop this Diwali. One design is inspired from mural artwork, the second design is inspired from the ancient wooden board game – the Pallanguzhi and the third design is inspired from abstract form of latticework.
Palam Silks is located in Tnagar and Mylapore. Along SilkDrop, shop for special Diwali Collections and Gift Sarees starting from 5,000 in Silk Blends, 8,000 in Softsilk and above 15,000 in pure handloom Kanchipuram silk sarees.
