· Aims to encourage individuals and couples to understand and protect their reproductive health before fertility becomes a challenge
Chennai, August 21, 2026: BirthRight Fertility by Rainbow Children’s Hospitals has launched Uyir Fertility Clinic, a preventive fertility care initiative in Chennai, with the launch marked by the presence of Indian actress Nayanthara. With delayed parenthood, changing lifestyles and growing awareness around reproductive health, Uyir aims to encourage individuals and couples to understand their fertility earlier, identify potential risks and make informed decisions about their reproductive future.
The launch comes at a time when fertility is emerging as an increasingly important health and demographic conversation in Tamil Nadu. According to the latest Sample Registration System data, India’s Total Fertility Rate has fallen to 1.9, below the replacement level of 2.1, while Tamil Nadu’s fertility rate stands at 1.3, among the lowest in the country. Against this backdrop of delayed parenthood and changing reproductive choices, there is a growing need to look at fertility not only when conception becomes difficult, but much earlier through greater awareness, assessment and timely guidance.
Unlike a treatment-first approach, Uyir focuses on fertility awareness, early assessment, lifestyle guidance, timely intervention and fertility preservation, while offering assisted reproductive treatments such as IUI and IVF when clinically indicated. The clinic primarily caters to individuals and couples in their 20s and 30s, including those planning pregnancies in the future, newly married couples, individuals seeking fertility assessment and those who may benefit from fertility preservation options such as egg or embryo freezing.
Discussing the importance of early fertility assessment and preservation, Dr. Madhumitha S, Reproductive Medicine and Surgery Consultant, BirthRight by Rainbow Hospitals, said, “Around one in six people globally experience infertility at some point in their reproductive lives, highlighting why fertility needs to be a conversation well before conception becomes a challenge. Fertility is not something individuals should think about only when they are ready to conceive. A comprehensive fertility assessment begins with understanding a person’s medical and reproductive history, lifestyle and fertility goals, supported by appropriate screening to identify factors that may need attention. At Uyir, we encourage individuals and couples to understand their reproductive health earlier and take timely steps based on their personal goals. For some, this may mean lifestyle changes or management of an underlying condition, while for others particularly those planning to delay parenthood or facing medical circumstances that may affect future fertility, options such as egg or embryo freezing can help preserve reproductive choices. The right information and intervention at the right time can make a meaningful difference to future fertility.”
Fertility can be influenced by a combination of lifestyle, medical and reproductive factors. Stress, inadequate sleep, obesity, poor nutrition, PCOS, endometriosis, male-factor infertility and delayed parenthood can affect reproductive health. Uyir’s approach begins with understanding an individual’s or couple’s medical and reproductive history, lifestyle, fertility goals and relevant health factors, helping identify areas that may require attention.
The clinic’s preventive approach includes fertility assessment, personalised counselling, lifestyle and nutrition guidance, male and female fertility evaluation, management of conditions such as PCOS and endometriosis, and fertility preservation. Where appropriate, individuals may be guided towards natural conception through lifestyle changes and management of underlying conditions. For those who may benefit from preserving their future fertility, options such as egg or embryo freezing can be considered based on individual circumstances.
Highlighting the importance of individualized fertility care, Dr. Ramya M.R, Consultant – Reproductive Medicine & Infertility, BirthRight by Rainbow Hospitals, said, “Tamil Nadu’s Total Fertility Rate has now fallen to around 1.3, well below the replacement level of 2.1, bringing fertility and reproductive health into sharper focus for the state. While population-level fertility trends and individual infertility are different issues, the changing age at which people plan parenthood makes it increasingly important to have informed conversations about reproductive health and fertility earlier. Every couple has a different fertility journey, and there cannot be a one-size-fits-all approach to conception. Sometimes, patients need patience, reassurance and the right guidance more than they need an immediate IVF cycle. At Uyir, we first understand the couple’s complete medical and reproductive profile and identify factors that may be contributing to delayed conception. IUI or IVF are valuable treatment options when clinically indicated, but they should be recommended based on individual needs rather than as the default first step. Our aim is to understand first, intervene appropriately and help each couple move towards parenthood in the most suitable way.”
Uyir also brings together comprehensive fertility services including IUI, IVF, egg and embryo freezing and other assisted reproductive procedures under one roof. The clinic is supported by advanced reproductive medicine and embryology infrastructure, enabling fertility evaluation, assisted reproductive procedures and fertility preservation with evidence-based clinical care.
Speaking on the occasion,Mr. Gunasekhar C, Cluster head, Rainbow Children’s Hospital Chennai, said, “Fertility care has traditionally been associated with treatment, often beginning only when couples encounter difficulty conceiving. With Uyir, we want to take a step earlier and create greater awareness around fertility as an important part of reproductive health. Our aim is to give individuals and couples access to the right information, assessment and guidance at the right stage, so they can make informed decisions about their reproductive future. Uyir represents our commitment to expanding fertility care beyond treatment and towards prevention, preservation and personalized support.”
With Uyir, BirthRight by Rainbow Hospitals aims to broaden the conversation around fertility in Chennai, encouraging individuals and couples to think about reproductive health before conception becomes a challenge and to seek the right guidance at the right time.
