Chennai, 25 February: Agurchand Manmull Jain College, Chennai organised a one day traditional food festival, ‘Aahaaram’ on 25th February, 2023, to commemorate the international year of millets. In an effort to create awareness and promote the health benefits of millets, the college conducted the food fest in its campus at Meenambakkam. The food festival was organised by ‘AMJCIAN Bazaar’ in association with SEED.
Around 100 stalls were put up by the college along with 20 stalls by the Outsiders. A guest lecture on the topic of ‘vegetarianism’ was delivered by Ms. Lakshmi Neelakandan – Ex – CEO – Karuna International on the occasion of the food festival.
Sharing the thoughts about ‘Aaharam’ the food festival and AMJCIAN bazaar, Dr. M Ramya, Dean, Agurchand Manmull Jain College said, “With the rise of contemporary human lifestyles, some best practices that we followed were left behind. Now, if we are to work towards a better future, we must reclaim the values and practices we abandoned.”
“Individual food habits have changed dramatically, particularly among metropolitan people. The popularity of millet is progressively growing again and people have started to incorporate this millet-based meal into their daily meal. We demonstrate our concern for our health, farmers, and the environment by eating millet-based foods. Keeping this in mind and to commemorate the international year of millets, we have organised Aahaaram, the traditional food festival and bazaar,” she added.
The bazaar also had a variety of stalls including eco-friendly and hand-made products, electronics and books stores, nurseries and much more. Millet grains and millet-based food were also sold during the fest.
Photography, fun and adventure games, mehendi, nail polish and tattoo studios were put up as well.
