VELAMMAL’S CHILD PRODIGY SHINES AT THE NATIONAL CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP

Miss Pooja Shree, Std III of Velammal Main School, Mogappair Campus has nabbed the Silver, at the 34th National Under-8 Open & Girls Chess Championship-2022 and earned Rupees 36,000 as prize money held in K L University, Vijayavada, Andhra Pradesh between 9th May and 14th May, 2022.

With a podium finish at the national championship, a credible second position with a score 9 out of 11 has qualified Pooja at the age of 8 to represent India in the oncoming World Youth and Asian Youth Chess Championship 2022.

The six-day national event was a part of Azadi Ka Amruth Mahotsav organized by the All India Chess Federation under the aegis of FIDE, wherein chess champions under-8 across India participated.
