NIT Trichy Alumni steps in to help all stakeholders of their Alma Mater

Alumni of NIT Trichy, formerly {REC Trichy} through RECAL (REC/NIT Trichy Alumni Association) has seen a tremendous out pouring of love and support for the NIT Trichy family. This is evident from the fact that alumni from all over the world have opened their hearts and purses to help the Covid affected here in India through the RECAL CARES initiative.  Students, Alumni families, Faculty, contract labourers & mess employees (who have lost their livelihoods) because of the current pandemic crisis have been the beneficiaries.

According to Mr. Mali Mahalingam, President of RECAL, this Pandemic has been cruel on all of us. We at RECAL decided that as it was our duty to support the larger NIT Trichy family (alumni, students, faculty, staff, neighborhood) and help them overcome these trying times.

Mahalingam added, while we launched initiatives to financially support alumni, students and staff affected by the pandemic, we have also supported our Alma Mater in a unique way. We collaborated and funded the development and fabrication of a mobile O2 Generator by the Department of Energy & Environment. This should be operational very soon and will serve the oxygen needs of not only NIT but allow us to transport the O2 to the surrounding communities & medical facilities as well.

Dr Mini Thomas Director, NIT Trichy, has constituted a committee to coordinate the activities of RECAL CARES to help different stakeholders of the Institute: students, staff, faculty, Alumni and the neighborhood affected due to the pandemic. She says” I am happy that our past students are showing they care when it matters most. This is upholding our Mission to serve a dynamically evolving society”

RECAL has provided 4 Oxygen concentrators for the Institute Hospital and the same is being put to use for the campus residents and the neighbourhood.

Alumni of NIT Trichy have provided a Covid helpline which is on by 24/7. They have so far serviced 130 plus requests from 20 cities across 7 states.

Students who lost their parent(s) due to Covid or parent(s) who lost their livelihood will be supported by RECAL to pay their Institute Tuition Fees.

Mr Raja Renganathan, President of NIT Trichy, USA Alumni Chapter says “Contributions are pouring in from the Alumni living in the U.S and from all the past students from India and other countries. Our underlying thought has been REC/NIT Trichy is one family, and it’s time we stood up for each other. We are hoping to reach our goal of 600 + Alumni Donors in the coming days.
