- A Unified Cashless Travel & Retail Solution for Urban Commuters
Chennai, 28 October 2025: EbixCash, a leader in digital payments, remittance, and financial-technology solutions, has partnered with Chennai-based fintech, IppoPay Technologies Private Limited, to introduce the ‘Namma Chennai Card’ — a co-branded prepaid card designed to deliver a seamless, cash-free, and convenient travel experience for Chennai’s commuters.
The launch event took place at the Tamil Nadu Global Startup Summit 2025, earlier this month at the Codissia Trade Fair Complex, Coimbatore. The event was graced by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, who also visited the IppoPay stall during his tour of the exhibition.
The Namma Chennai Card is a General Purpose Reloadable (GPR) prepaid card built on the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) framework. It allows users to make integrated travel payments across multiple public-transport systems and also enables retail purchases at participating merchants — unifying transit and everyday transactions under the Government of India’s “One Nation, One Card” vision.
Deepak Bhatia, Business Head, Payments at EbixCash said, “The launch of the Namma Chennai Card marks another milestone in our journey toward enabling smart, secure, and inclusive digital payments for urban commuters. Our partnership with IppoPay underscores our shared commitment to building interoperable and future-ready payment ecosystems that strengthen India’s evolving mobility landscape.”
“We are proud to collaborate with EbixCash on this initiative that empowers Chennai’s commuters with convenience and accessibility. The Namma Chennai Card is more than just a payment tool — it’s a step toward transforming how people experience travel and digital payments in everyday life,” said Jaikumar R, Co-founder & CTO, IppoPay
The Namma Chennai Card can be conveniently reloaded and used across metro stations for easy entry and exit, MTC buses for tap-and-go payments, and at retail merchants for everyday purchases.
This single-card solution removes the need for multiple payment instruments, reduces cash dependency, and improves transaction efficiency — enhancing both commuter convenience and digital adoption across Chennai’s growing public-transport ecosystem.
By combining EbixCash’s expertise in regulated payment infrastructure with IppoPay’s fintech innovation, this collaboration supports the Smart City Mission and financial inclusion objectives of the Government of India. It also establishes a scalable model for other Indian metros looking to enable integrated, contactless, and interoperable payment solutions under the NCMC framework.
