Chennai, 9th September 2019: Sony BBC Earth, India’s premium infotainment channel, is all set to premiere the mega-series, Serengeti, which promises drama and action in the wild. Shot across the lush grasslands of Africa, this pioneering series follows the interconnected stories of a cast of iconic savannah animals over one year and premieres on September 9 at 9 PM. All 6 episodes, full of humour, intensity and nail-biting tension will be available in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, only on Sony BBC Earth.
For the first time, Sony BBC Earth in association with Dakshinachitra, Chennai’s best heritage museum, held an exclusive screening of the first episode of the highly anticipated series for less privileged children, on September 6. The unique initiative was to extend Sony BBC Earth’s brand promise of ‘feel alive’ to the kids of Uthandi Government School and to offer them an experience like never-before. The gathered kids got a chance to watch the first episode of Serengeti, before anyone else in India and to take a tour of the culturally rich, Dakshinachitra.
Narrated by the award-winning British actor (of Star Wars fame) John Boyega, this series is about love and loss, jealousy and rivalry, tragedy and triumph, as the lives of these animals entangle and dramatically unfold in the heart of Africa. Using ground-breaking filming techniques and an original music score to put you at the heart of the action, Serengeti brings real-life animal drama to the screen in an intimate and breath-taking detail.
Featuring the most iconic and unique animal species from the rich grasslands of Africa, Serengeti piqued the interest of the little minds and captured their imagination. The kids were wowed by the larger than life, break-taking visuals and the fast paced, intense drama and action. The episode was met with a resounding applause from the audience, who got a sneak peek into Sony BBC Earth’s content library for the first time ever.

“Students thoroughly enjoyed the show. We’ve all seen stories of the African wildlife, but SERENGETI shows such unique stories of animal families. It’s refreshing and absolutely thrilling! I think it’s a great initiative taken by Sony BBC Earth to give these students an opportunity to witness such breath-taking stories of the natural world. There’s so much that they can learn about the natural world from such stories. I believe it’s a show that everyone MUST watch!”
