About the Course

The DAV Group of Schools launched the year-long Guru Shikshanam course in 2018 primarily with an intent to address the dearth of quality teachers across the board, in the country. This Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) course is based on a holistic approach to education and covers all aspects of learning and teaching. It follows the Goldilocks principle of just the right amount of theory and practical sessions, an unprecedented design.

Aspirants are empowered to effectively teach at least two preferred subjects for any class ranging from standard 1 to 10.

Course Structure

The course is divided into three semesters – each focusing on Primary, Middle and High School respectively.  A plethora of subjects including Livings Values, Classroom Management, Child Psychology, Technology in Education and much more gives trainees the opportunity to groom their personality and inner well-being, equip themselves with the tools necessary for effective teaching and in a sense, become future-ready. The course curriculum is truly one-of-a-kind.

Faculty and Training

The faculty team comprises of highly qualified educators with vast experience, tremendous energy and dedication towards the profession. Various workshops are also conducted to keep trainees updated on the latest developments in the field of education. A certificate course on Inclusive Education by the Madras Dyslexia Association is included as part of the curriculum. First Aid sessions are also held to equip teachers with knowledge and practice to handle emergency situations.

Placement

A well-structured placement process is in place to provide trainees with job opportunities at the end of the course upon successful completion.

Batch 1

The pilot batch of Guru Shikshanam was highly successful and has received rave reviews from all quarters. The second batch of PGCE commenced in June 2019. It is very interesting to note that the PGCE course attracted candidates from all walks of life, including doctors, engineers, IT professionals, home-makers and even teachers.  All the candidates who completed the PGCE course in March 2019 have found placement in reputed schools and some have found jobs in our own institution.

BUSINESS ACCOUNTING AND OFFICE SKILLS (BAOS): The Course, its Intent and Journey so far

About the Course

Business Accounting and Office Skills is an intensive course for people from diverse fields and qualifications to up their game in mid-tier administration. The objective of the course is to fill the huge gap – with regard to skills – amongst fresh graduates willing to take up mid-tier jobs in the accounting space thereby enhancing their employability while also providing an opportunity for the existing workforce to scale up their skillsets.

The course syllabi encompasses essential skills that are prerequisite for an office environment and also includes the “From the Basics” approach that helps those foraying into their careers get a clear and thorough understanding of the subject and space.

The classes is conducted by well-experienced faculty and a team of professionals who carry along with them sound domain knowledge. The curriculum is a right blend of both theory and practical lessons keeping in mind day-to-day real time applications in an office environment.

The course introduces to its participants the basics in accounting skills allowing them a strong foundation and a thorough understanding of the premise and principles of accounting. Step-by-step MSOffice and Tally are introduced thereafter and this helps students gain an understanding of using the computer and apply accounting skills with a proficiency that is on par with experts. The course also encompasses communication skills and personal effectiveness, easily amongst the most important requirement for any office. The course also covers areas of GST and Income Tax that allows students an in-depth financial understanding. To complete the picture, the course also offers a hint of the importance of Vedic values and reinforces the imperativeness of spiritual and physical well-being and yoga.

For trainees who have time on their hands and don’t have a job, the course also offers internship opportunities that helps students put theory into practice.

Students of the first batch of the course were a diverse lot – ranging from home-makers to businesswomen. College students also joined the course to enhance their learning experience. After finishing the course, many of the students secured good positions in various accounting firms and other organisations.

The course also provides support with placement.

Eligibility: Anyone with a willingness to learn

Basic English communication skills is mandatory

Theory classes : 240 lectures | 2 terms | ~120 lectures per term | Each lecture of 1 hour, 15 minutes

Timing – 5:30 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. (Tue – Sat); 9:00 – 1:15 p.m. (Sunday)

Venue – ‘DAV Shikshanam’ Gopalapuram campus

Course Fee – Rs. 18,000/- Inclusive of GST
