Ramanathapuram, 21st January 2020: Driven by an intent to protect our Earth and its environment, and to create an awareness on the importance of co-existing with greenery and nature, Martin Charitable Trust, along with the district of Ramanathapuram, with the support of the Government of Tamil Nadu, is getting ready to organize a very special event spread over 72 hours. Yes, in order to increase the green cover, we are all set to create a world record in “making the greatest number of seed-balls in 72 hours.”
For three days, starting from 21.01.2020, Tuesday, until Friday, 23.01.2020, about 2500 people, including the students of the National Academy and the Ramanathapuram District Government Schools, led by the District Collector of Ramanathapuram District, Mr. Ko. Veeraraghava Rao, IAS, and in the presence of Additional District Collector (Development), Mr. M, Pradeep Kumar, IAS, are going to prepare 30,00,000 seed balls. The event will begin at 9.00 AM on 21.01.2020, Tuesday, at the National Academy School premises, Ramanathapuram. Mrs. Leema Rose, Managing Director of the Martin Charitable Trust, and Mrs. Sayyed Abdullah, Registrar of National Academy School, will inaugurate the event and be the special guests.
Seeds of six different trees ideally suited for the weather conditions of Ramanathapuram, like custard apple (Sitapazham), wood apple (Vilam pazham), guava, golden shower trees (Sara Kondrai), peacock flower trees (Mayil Kondrai), and Portia (Poovarasan), will be used for making the seed-balls. With each ball containing four seeds, the 30,00,000 seed balls will be made with 1 crore 20 lakh seeds! We have sufficient quantities of red soil, cow dung, and water required for the project. We have also taught the students how to make the seed-balls.
The idea behind making this a record-making event is to create a global awareness about seed-balls. Therefore, the students are going to make seed-balls for three consecutive days. The seed-balls thus made shall be planted all over Ramanathapuram district, through the office of the District Collector, and Martin Charitable Trust.
The event is going to be observed in person and certified by four different world record agencies, including the Elite World Records (United States LLC), Asian Records Academy (United Arab Emirates), the Indian Records Academy, and the Tamilan Book of Records.
The District Collector requests your participation in this noble task to create awareness on the importance of co-existing with nature and to protect precious resources like water, land, and the environment.
